With so many teams in Division 1, it can be difficult to determine
early on who’s going to emerge as the biggest force in the
2007-2008 NCAA Tournament. We have some of the best college basketball
picks for you, focusing on some of the stronger teams who should
give a good showing this season. There are several teams that look
great this year, but we have four that seem to stand out about the
rest. These teams were exceptional last season, and they look to
be exceptional again. Some have lost some crucial players, but their
mentality for achieving the championship doesn’t seem to have
waned in the slightest.
The first team you should watch is the UCLA Bruins. The Bruins,
who placed 1st last season, are expected to have yet another impressive
showing this year. Even after losing Aaron Afflalo, the Bruins are
still anticipated to dominate the court. A notable addition to the
lineup is freshman Kevin Love. Love can play a serious game underneath
the basket, and that’s the kind of skill this team needs right
now. As of right now, the Bruins are appearing to be the number
one team this year.
Next up is the Memphis Tigers. These guys can play a mean game of
ball. The Tigers placed second last year, and they look equally
amazing this season. The team will be suffering from the loss of
Jeremy Hunt and his 14 point-per-game average, but will benefit
from freshman Derrick Rose taking the court. Another player to watch
is Joey Dorsey, who won Defensive Player of the Year from Conference
USA. The Tigers look top form this year and should come through
for their fans.
Another good college basketball pick is going to be the North Carolina
Tar Heels. The Tar Heels lost an important player this season –
Brandan Wright, who scored second both in points and rebounds last
year, departed for the NBA. What the team is left with though should
still come through, and they’ve even gained a powerful new
player in William Graves. Now Graves is a big guy, so expect him
to play under the basket often. The Tar Heels play a great running
game, but on average, they shy away from the three-point shots.
Will this be their Achilles or will their fast-paced under-the-basket
strategy pay off?
And finally, make sure you mark the Kansas Jayhawks, who only lost
one player to the NBA this year, maintaining the form that brought
them V after V last season. Their lost player was Julian Wright,
drafted 13th overall into the NBA. However, Darrell Arthur will
be taking his place on the paint. Last season, Arthur averaged about
10 points and 19 minutes per game. It’ll be interesting to
see how Arthur shoulders the starting role and what he’ll
bring to the team. Chances are good that at least two of the Tar
Heels’ starting line are going to the NBA next year, so they
have to make their championship dreams happen this season –
or risk being able to do it at all.
