This week, the NFL is going to see several very close match ups. Right up front is going to be the Washington Redskins hosting the Chicago Bears this Thursday night. Both teams have a 5-7 win record this season, but oddsmakers have posted a spread of three points, with Washington taking the win. The Redskins continue to mourn the loss of their safety Sean Taylor, and their mentality might not be at its peak at this time. The game should still prove to be a close battle, but it would be advisable to bet that Chicago will beat the spread this Thursday.
Another one of the more intense games happening this Sunday is going to be the Tennessee Titans hosting the San Diego Chargers. Again, both teams have an equal win record with this season, at 7 wins and 5 losses, and both teams are evenly matched in terms of odds, with the Titans covering the spread 7 out of 12 times, and the Chargers covering the spread 6 out of 12 times. With that said, the odds for this game favor the Chargers by only one point. When playing Tennessee, the Chargers have won four out of the past five times, and they’re also on a two game winning streak. It would be a safe bet to put money on the Chargers covering the spread against Tennessee in week 14.
For more NFL picks, look for the Philadelphia Eagles to cover the spread against the New York Giants this Sunday. Philly not only has the home field against the Giants, but also have a score to settle over the loss to New York in week 4. Statistically, the odds are favored slightly towards the Eagles, having beaten the Giants 5 out of 7 times in home games against the Giants. It’s true that Philadelphia is coming off a two-game losing streak, but they’re also 4-2 in their last six games, and this team doesn’t look like it’s willing to submit to the Giants quite yet.
Watching this Sunday’s Dallas at Detroit game would also be a good idea, as the Cowboys have Superbowl ambitions this year and will easily cover the 11 point spread. Last week, the Cowboys covered the spread and defeated their biggest NFL threat, the Green Bay Packers. With that win behind them, it seems as though a showdown between the New England Patriots at this year’s Superbowl seems almost inevitable. Dallas is also on a very impressive six game winning streak, while Detroit is on a four game losing streak. Should be no contest for a win, but the spread is where it counts. Detroit has only beat the spread five times this season, while being unable to cover it six times.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are listed as an eleven point favorite against the Carolina Panthers in week 14, but oddsmakers have underestimated the Panther’s rushing power. The Panthers are ranked 5th in the league in rushing and look to play an intense game of defense. Jacksonville is entering into this game with a better win and ATS record than Carolina, but the Panthers have a better away game record, winning straight up and against the spread six out of the last games. The Panthers still probably won’t win this game, but it might be a bit closer than losing by eleven points.
