The team to really watch this season is going to be the Boston Celtics.
Even though they placed dead last in their division last year, there
are plenty of reasons to believe that they’re going to be
a potential championship-winning team this season. The first is
their three exceptional players – Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen,
and Paul Pierce. Pierce is a returning member, but the addition
of Garnett and Allen should really tip the scales in Boston’s
favor for the 2007-2008 NBA season. Even though the rest of the
Celtics are only decent players, all three of the Celtics’
star players working in conjunction should be interesting to watch,
and Boston might become a come-from-behind victor this season, after
placing 4th last season.
There are two exceptional teams emerging from the Southwest division
this season – The San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Mavericks.
The San Antonio Spurs placed a close second behind the Mavericks
last season and should give Dallas a run for their money this year.
With no key subtractions this season, the Spurs should be working
together as a team much more fluently this year. The addition of
Ime Udoka should prove interesting to watch, and will probably do
nothing but help the team - even if it is only a small amount. That
small amount, however, might be just enough to take the championship
this year and outfox the Dallas Mavericks.
The Mavericks are still in the running for their division win this
season, but it still remains to be seen if they have what it takes
to take the championship in the post-season this year. Coach Avery
Johnson has been doing good things for this team in the past four
seasons, and the question remains if he can keep it up. Dallas needs
some rebound assistance this season if it wants to stay in this
ballgame. Despite being first in their division last season, the
Spurs ended up taking the title of NBA champions. Keep a close eye
on how the Mavericks play against the Spurs this season to see if
they have what it takes to go all the way.
The last team you should really pay close attention to this season
is the Phoenix Suns. Placed first in the Southwest division, the
Suns are expecting a repeat performance for the 2007-2008 NBA season.
They are good, but moreover, they have to want that championship
pretty badly. They lost to the Spurs in the conference semi-finals
last season, who ended up going on to win the championship. Losing
to the best team in the league does something to a team’s
mental state. In their mind, they feel like second place, and second
place is a great jumping off for stealing the championship title
away from San Antonio.
No matter what happens, these four teams and many others will prove
to make this an outstanding season in the NBA. There are many undertones
and hidden value teams that could also emerge and vie for a high-ranking
spot in the league.
